Advocates for CURE have worked very hard throughout the years for positive change within the Department of Corrections and as a result they have achieved some pretty noticeable goals;

  • A job application for Federal Employment which initially does not require any felony conviction information.
  • Drug and Mental Health Courts to divert those people with drug and mental health issues towards treatment not incarceration.
  • Veterans Administration assistance with reentry help for those veterans who are incarcerated.
  • Reduced phone fees as a result of dedication and determination.

Maine CURE is incorporated  as part of  CURE National   in Washington D.C.  There are 23 other state chapters  as well as 4 special issue chapters all sharing resources ,support, hope and belief.

About Us

CURE (Citizens United for Rehabilitation of Errants) is a national non-profit, multi-issue  organization dedicated to the reduction of crime through the reform of the criminal justice system (especially prison reform).  Cure strives to ensure just treatment  for prisoners, victims and families. A person is sent to prison as punishment not for punishment.

CURE does not condone criminal activity, but advocates public safety through prison reforms. CURE supports programs for a life free of crime upon release and we believe that  mental health and substance abuse treatment programs as well as basic living skills classes to ensure that the prisoner is able to meet their basic needs are absolutely necessary for success upon release. In order to change the outcome of those incarcerated, we need to work on fixing the problems, not just covering them up.  Today's prisoners are tomorrows neighbors, How do you want them returned to your neighborhood?

The mission of Maine CURE is to reduce crime by advocating for effective criminal justice policies, procedures and programs.

Although the road of incarceration is very difficult and often times the professionals that we must deal with within the Department of Corrections can be very intimidating, know that you are not alone!  Don't be afraid to take that first step and reach out to us at Maine CURE.
